"Fundación Metalmecánica para la Capacitación Industrial" (Metalmechanic Foundation for Industrial Training) , FUNDAMETAL, was created in 1976, sponsored by Sivensa, for the purpose of training human resources for the metalmechanic industry. Through its 30 years of development, the institution has evolved and has become an Applied Knowledge Center , with more than 26,000 participants per year, in the levels of apprentices, superior technicians, university and fourth level, the latter through agreements with national universities.

FUNDAMETAL's Alternative Education programs are aimed at inserting youths into the productive economy by training them as qualified labor. In this area, 700 high-school graduates, ages 18 to 26, receive technical and practical training during periods that vary from 6 to 8 months, preparing them to enter the labor market, or to become micro-entrepreneurs.

Among the achievements of FUNDAMETAL in 2005, it signed a Cooperation Agreement with the European Commission to endow the Professional Training workshops at Guayana with technical equipment for conducting training and professional programs in Electricity, Electronics, Instrumentation and Pneumatics. These programs seek to facilitate the labor insertion of young apprentices and the permanence of the region's workers.
